I love her, but I don’t really like her.

Liking people is a lot harder than loving them! As Christians, we’re called to love everybody, but let’s be honest... there are some people we just don’t naturally click with. At work, in leadership, or even in our own families.

Behavioural Researcher and Bestselling author Vanessa Van Edwards refers to this fascinating study about what makes someone popular. It examined the most likeable kids across different schools and age groups and found one thing they all had in common: they liked more people!

We all want to be liked. It helps us feel connected, work better together, and enjoy life a little more. And if the number of people who like you is a direct correlation to how many people you make the effort to befriend, then instead of waiting for someone to win you over, try looking for something to appreciate in them. Maybe it’s their sense of humour, their work ethic, or the way they show up for others.

This may come easier for an extrovert like me, but it’s not about being a social butterfly, and you don’t have to be best friends with everyone. But you CAN choose to be curious, kind, and intentional about seeing the good in people.

There's a lot less pressure when you ask yourself “How can I like others MORE?” rather than trying to BE liked more!

Here’s your challenge this week: Like first... and make sure people actually know you like them!
